Baseball Card Hall of Fame
To celebrate 25 years of baseball card collecting on the platform, eBay inaugurated 10 players whose cards broke sales records into the first-ever Baseball Card Hall of Fame.
Background
Baseball card collecting has been called America’s second-favorite pastime, and cards of legendary players have broken their own records on eBay. As the “internet’s card shop,” eBay wanted to commemorate iconic cards that have left a legacy on pop culture.
What we did
To commemorate 25 years of selling baseball cards, eBay founded the first-ever Baseball Card Hall of Fame. The inaugural class was inducted at a ceremony in New York, including 10 legends and 5 hopefuls whose cards are legendary performers. Yankees Hall of Famer, Mariano Rivera gave the induction speech and was honored with the ‘Diamond Award,’ given to a player for their achievements on eBay and in the collectibles community. During the induction, eBay and Rivera launched an exclusive collection of 42 pieces of one-of-a-kind memorabilia with all proceeds benefiting the Mariano Rivera Foundation.
