Vault Stars

A first-of-its-kind live baseball card draft to launch eBay’s new vault service.

What we did

A first-ever live baseball card draft to showcase eBay’s innovative new vault service. Inspired by daily fantasy leagues, we challenged actor and baseball fanatic Miles Teller to start a collection by shopping real cards on eBay. With guidance from former big leaguer and collector Chase Utley, Teller would select his most vault-worthy lineup live at an event during MLB All-Star Week. Five cards, 15 minutes, and $25,000 later, Teller sent his new ‘Vault Stars’ collection to the eBay vault.

Background

Since 2002, trading cards have become a booming new asset class. As the world’s largest collectibles marketplace, eBay created the vault to give collectors a new way to buy, sell, and protect their most valuable cards. The announcement of this new tool from eBay would coincide with one of the biggest weekends in baseball, where players, fans, and sports media convene in one place.
